Potluck and Our First Zucchini!

As our term of service wraps up, we would like to thank everyone who has made this project possible and extend an invitation to our Garden Potluck at the Somers School on Wednesday, August 10, 7-9pm!
Come see how much the garden has grown, eat delicious food and spend time with friends and neighbors. Please bring a dish to share with the group and feel free to bring your family and friends!

Speaking of how much the garden has grown, we picked the first zucchini today (below, right)! Just a week ago it was tiny, but the hot weather gave it a growth spurt. Our potato tower (below, left) has also grown significantly, the potatoes are leafing out on all sides. Our bed of broccoli, cauliflower and onions (below, center) is doing well and hopefully will start producing soon!

  1. What can I say -- the plants are all happily sprouting, growing and strong! The tough days of planning, building, hauling, planting, weeding and hard work have all paid off.

The garden gift that both of you are leaving behind for the community, (and especially for the kids), is priceless. It's truly a gift from the heart which will now be enjoyed to nourish their minds as well as their bellies.

Who knows how many future gardeners you have inspired to pass on what they have learned for generations yet to come.

You came, you worked long and hard, and your plans came to fruition in every sense of the word. You will be leaving a place that is far better, in a myriad of ways, for your having been there. How many of us can lay claim to that kind of accomplishment in only a few months' time? Not many.

So leave proudly and cheerfully. Give each other a hug and a pat on the back for a job more than well done. As for me, I'm trying to get out of my chair so I can give you both a standing ovation. ;o)
